Jasmine Crockett scolds white Dems for not voting against Charlie Kirk resolution: ‘Hurt my heart’
Rep. Jasmine Crockett didn’t hold back when she called out her white Democratic colleagues for mostly supporting a House resolution honoring conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The measure passed Friday, backed by all 215 Republicans who voted and 95 Democrats. But 58 Democrats voted no, while another 64 chose present or skipped the vote altogether.
Speaking on CNN’s “State of the Union” Sunday, Crockett shared how the results hit her hard. “One of the things that hurt my heart is when I saw the no votes—there were only two Caucasians,” she said. “For the most part, the only people that voted no were people of color.”
Crockett, a Democrat from Texas, pointed to Kirk’s history of inflammatory comments. The rhetoric that Charlie Kirk continuously put out there was rhetoric that specifically targeted people of color,” she explained. “It is unfortunate that even our colleagues could not see how harmful his rhetoric was—specifically to us!”
Still, several Democratic lawmakers from diverse backgrounds did vote yes, including House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries of New York. The resolution has sparked debate in Congress, highlighting tensions over honoring figures like Kirk, who founded Turning Point USA and often draws crowds with his conservative views.
