Vice President Jonathan “JD” Vance touched down in Tel Aviv on Tuesday, joining his wife, First Lady‑in‑waiting Usha Vance, on a mission to move the Israel‑Hamas cease‑fire into its next stage.
At Ben Gurion Airport, the couple was welcomed by U.S. Ambassador Mike Huckabee, Israeli Ambassador‑to‑the‑U.S. Yechiel Leiter, and Israeli Justice Minister Yariv Levin. The quartet took a quick tour of the airport before heading to a meeting that will help keep the cease‑fire fragile but stable.
Vance’s trip follows the Trump‑administered agreement that ended last week’s fighting between Israel and Hamas. U.S. officials say the new phase will focus on building long‑term peace and preventing a repeat of the violence that led to hundreds of casualties on both sides.
The U.S. and Israel say that the U.S. embassy, along with military advisers already in the region, will keep a close eye on the situation. The cease‑fire is seen as a vital step toward lasting security for Israel, while giving Hamas an opportunity to negotiate further.
Usha Vance will stay in Tel Aviv with her husband as she meets several U.S. and Israeli officials. The Vances hope to talk about practical support for Israel and to write about how the U.S. can help keep peace in the region.
