Former President Joe Biden finished a week‑long course of radiation therapy Monday, ending treatment for his Stage 4 prostate cancer that has spread to his bones.
The 82‑year‑old held a bell‑ringing ceremony at Penn Medicine Radiation Oncology in Philadelphia to celebrate the milestone. His daughter, Ashley Biden, posted a video of her father striking a silver bell while hospital staff cheered. “Rung the Bell!” she wrote, adding thanks to “the incredible doctors, nurses, and staff at Penn Medicine.”
A Biden spokesperson confirmed the treatment was completed at the Philadelphia hospital, a regimen that began on Oct. 11. It’s still unclear if additional procedures or medication will be needed, though the doctors say his cancer is hormone‑sensitive and can be managed with drugs and radiation.
Biden was first diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer in May. The tumor was high‑grade, with a Gleason score of 9 out of 10, but it had not yet reached the bloodstream. The treatment plan has involved targeted radiation and hormonal therapy.
The former president’s health has drawn heightened attention in the final year of his presidency, raising questions about his ability to serve while receiving treatment. Despite the challenges, he has made public appearances, including attending evening Mass at St. Joseph on the Brandywine in Greenville, Delaware.
Ashley highlighted her father’s courage during a separate Instagram post, sharing a photo of himself with his wife, former First Lady Jill Biden, and two grandchildren. “Dad has been so damn brave throughout his treatment,” she said.
Biden turns 83 next month, and his campaign says he remains in good spirits as he continues to face the disease. The U.S. public watches closely as the ex‑president ends this chapter of medical care, hoping for a full recovery.
