Joe Rogan slams media complaining about Kimmel while UK government arrests people for online speech

Podcaster Joe Rogan has slammed U.S. media for zeroing in on Jimmy Kimmel’s brief show suspension while ignoring what he sees as a serious threat to free speech in the United Kingdom.

The drama started when Kimmel made comments about an alleged assassin targeting conservative activist Charlie Kirk. That led to backlash and a short pause for his late-night show, which some called censorship. But Rogan says that’s small potatoes compared to the bigger picture across the pond.

“Why is everyone obsessing over one talk show host?” Rogan asked on his podcast. He argues the real story is the UK’s crackdown on speech, including a proposed digital ID system that critics fear could let the government track and control people.

Rogan highlighted shocking stats: around 12,000 arrests each year in the UK just for social media posts. “Our mainstream media stays quiet on this—it’s insane,” he said. He called it a full-on assault on a core Western value: the right to speak your mind.

And it’s not just about violent threats, Rogan stressed. People get arrested for liking posts or even just viewing them. “This is an Orwellian nightmare unfolding right now, with digital IDs on top of it—and nobody’s batting an eye,” he added, referencing the dystopian novel 1984.

Rogan pointed out that Americans seem way more fired up about Kimmel’s monologue than about losing civil liberties in the English-speaking world. “Folks online are a bit worried about the UK, but they’re losing it over silly stuff like whether Kimmel’s joke crossed a line,” he said.

He warned that the Kimmel fuss creates a false sense of fighting back against censorship, while UK officials quietly tighten their grip—like a wrestling chokehold squeezing away basic freedoms.

The UK has seen heated debates over free speech lately, especially around mass migration and gender issues. Tensions boiled over at the “Unite the Kingdom” rally in London on September 13, 2025. Tens of thousands gathered near Parliament, waving Union Jack and St. George’s flags to protest what they view as eroding rights.

Rogan’s take underscores growing concerns about global censorship trends, from social media arrests to digital surveillance, and why they deserve more spotlight.
