Josh Shapiro rips Kamala Harris for ‘blatant lies’ about him in her memoir: ‘She’s trying to sell books and cover her ass’

Gov. Josh Shapiro from Pennsylvania took issue with former Vice President Kamala Harris, blasting her for what he called “blatant lies” in the memoir where she chronicled her thwarted White House run.

Shapiro had once been on Harris’s shortlist for the vice‑presidential slot. When he read that the ex‑veep, in her book *107 Days*, portrayed him as arrogant, domineering and obsessed with the perks of the vice‑presidential office, he reportedly erupted in anger.

“She wrote that in her book?” he asked The Atlantic’s Tim Alberta, who highlighted the harsh passages in a sit‑down interview published on Wednesday.

“That’s complete and utter bulls—t. I can tell you that her accounts are just blatant lies,” Shapiro replied.

Harris goes on to say that during the vetting period, Shapiro was fixated on the vice‑presidential residence—measuring drapes, counting bedrooms, and even questioning whether the Smithsonian would loan Pennsylvania art for display.

She also claimed that the governor wanted to be “in the room for every decision” if she became president, adding that he would often hijack conversations and needed to be reminded that he didn’t actually share power.

Alberta noted that Shapiro’s reaction swung between outrage and exasperation as he read the excerpts.

When pressed about whether he felt “betrayed” by the former vice president, Shapiro fired back, accusing her of shifting blame for her crushing defeat against President Trump. He added, “I mean, she’s trying to sell books and cover her ass,” before quickly retracted the comment.

He finished the clip by saying, “I shouldn’t say ‘cover her ass.’ I think that’s not appropriate.”

In her memoir, Harris documents the period following former President Joe Biden’s disastrous debate, the internal debates that followed, and ultimately the launch of her 107‑day campaign against Trump.

She describes the vice‑presidential search, noting that Pete Buttigieg, who is gay, was her “first choice,” but that pairing them posed “too big of a risk” because of his sexual orientation.

Harris writes, “We were already asking a lot of America: to accept a woman, a Black woman, a Black woman married to a Jewish man.” She reflects that part of her had wanted to say, “Screw it, let’s just do it,” but recognized the stakes were too great.

Shapiro has now emerged as a potential candidate for the 2028 presidential race.
