Police on Long Island are still hunting for two kayakers who vanished on Saturday night in Shinnecock Bay.
Shane Garcia, 27, and his 25‑year‑old friend Aaron Montemarano left their lime‑green two‑person kayak near the Ponquogue Bridge and never returned.
Before they disappeared, Garcia sent a selfie to his girlfriend that showed both men paddling in the bay. When the pair didn’t come home that evening, her report set off a frantic search.
The Southampton police released a statement saying they examined the bay and surrounding waters, but found no trace of the men. The search continues amid concerns that conditions in the water may have made rescue difficult.
With a clear request for any information, local authorities urge anyone who may have seen unfamiliar kayaks or heard unusual activity near Shinnecock Bay to come forward. The Long Island community remains on edge as the investigation into the missing kayakers unfolds.
