A single‑engine SOCATA TBM 700 crashed into the median of I‑195 in Dartmouth, Massachusetts, on Monday morning. The accident killed Thomas Perkins, 68, and his wife Agatha Perkins, 66, who were traveling from Middletown, Rhode Island, toward Kenosha, Wisconsin. The crash happened during rush hour, when gusty winds reached 55 mph.
The Perkinses were riding in a small plane registered to Air Charity Network, a parent company that supports “Angel Flight” charities providing free air transport for patients. The pair were not listed on any scheduled charity flight, and no flight plan was filed with the airport.
An unidentified woman was injured when her silver Hyundai Sonata was nearly totaled by the wreckage. Airport officials and state police are still trying to determine whether the pilot was volunteering for a public‑benefit organization.
Easton Air LLC, the plane’s owner, is based in the Perkins’ hometown in Rhode Island, and the aircraft’s FAA registration shows it as a 2013 model. The FAA has been unable to give detailed information because the current government shutdown limits reporting.
Massachusetts State Police said investigators are looking into why the plane went off course and why the flight plan was missing. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, with investigators noting that the event occurred amid a severe storm in the northeastern U.S.
