Melania Trump says 7 more abducted Ukraine kids reunited with families after back-channel talks

First‑Lady Melania Trump announced on Thursday morning that seven Ukrainian children who were taken during Russia’s invasion have now been reunited with their families, thanks to quietly negotiated talks with Moscow. In a statement, she said, “My dedication to guaranteeing the safe return of children to their families in this region is unwavering,” and praised both Russian and Ukrainian leaders for their persistent diplomacy, describing their bridge‑building as a tangible source of hope that will carry the work forward. The announcement follows her earlier declaration on Oct. 10 that the first eight kids had been returned after an “open channel” was opened with the Kremlin. Since the war began in February 2022, thousands of Ukrainian children have been forcibly deported to Russian territory; Kyiv officials count at least 19,500 as missing, while non‑official humanitarian groups believe the number is much higher. Ukraine’s First Lady Olena Zelenska told The Post in August that the children who come back are “subdued mentally — they’re broken,” but that once home, they slowly begin to come out of their shells.
