Tennis Premier League’s Race to Gold Masters kicks off in Delhi

The Tennis Premier League (TPL) kicked off its new “Race to Gold Masters” tournament on Saturday at the Delhi Lawn Tennis Association (DLTA). The first leg begins in Delhi’s North Zone and the tour will carry on through three cities – Delhi, Gujarat (Nov 2 and 23) and Mumbai (Nov 29 and 30) – in partnership with the local state tennis associations.

The Race to Gold Masters is TPL’s fresh way to spot India’s next tennis stars. Players compete in a fast‑paced 25‑point format that keeps matches exciting for fans and gives rising talent a chance to shine on a big stage. Winners from each zone in U10, U12, U14, and Men’s & Women’s Open categories earn a ₹75,000 scholarship and a spot in the show‑stopping segment of TPL Season 7.

Season 7 will run Dec 9‑14 in Ahmedabad at the Gujarat University Tennis Stadium. Over the weekend, the tournament’s top performers will be celebrated live on television. They’ll also have the rare chance to meet tennis legends Leander Paes and Rohan Bopanna and play with top‑50 world players such as Luciano Darderi, Arthur Rinderknech, Corentin Moutet, Alexandre Muller, Sahaja Yamalapalli, and Shrivalli Bhamidipaty.

Kunal Thakkur, co‑founder of the TPL, said the league can’t grow unless the sport grows in India. “The Race to Gold comes from our ambition to host the 2036 Olympics in Ahmedabad,” he explained. “We want to start today to develop a player who could bring home an Olympic tennis medal, like Leander Paes did with his bronze.”

Co‑founder Mrunal Jain added, “Supporting U10‑U14 players now will put them on track to peak in the next decade, just in time for the Olympics. Seeing top‑50 players in action, meeting legends, and learning straight off the court is essential for building India’s tennis ecosystem.”

The Race to Gold Masters adds an extra competitive edge to the TPL’s already popular season. With its clear focus on youth development, fast‑tracked competition, and rewards that spotlight the winners, the tournament is expected to draw growing crowds and provide a platform for the next generation of Indian tennis stars.
