Deaths of Wisconsin newlyweds found in car days before anniversary ruled murder-suicide: cops
Several days before their first anniversary, a tragic murder‑suicide rocked a quiet stretch of U.S. Highway 14 near Burbank Street in Harvard, Illinois. Police found a car parked with its hazard lights on, and inside the vehicle were the bodies of 30‑year‑old Brandon Dumovich and his wife, 29‑year‑old Rachel Dumovich.
Brandon shot Rachel first, then turned the gun on himself. The McHenry County Coroner confirmed the couple died from fatal gunshot wounds to the head. Investigators say the killing is an isolated incident, and there is no sign of an ongoing threat to the community.
The couple had tied the knot on October 12, 2024, after dating for two years. Rachel and Brandon were “middle‑school sweethearts”; they met when they were 12 in Madison County, Wisconsin. Their friendship turned into love in 2022, and they celebrated their engagement in summer 2023 at Big Cedar Lake near Slinger, Wisconsin.
Rachel, a human‑resource manager at Climate Pros, graduated from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee with a business degree. Brandon served in the U.S. Navy as a petty officer before he was 30. A last‑minute Facebook post from Rachel said, “Forever chasing sunsets. Wishing we were back in Greece,” hinting at their honeymoon plans.
