Nick Reiner had reputation for violence, had ‘always been troubled’ before he allegedly slaughtered dad Rob and mom Michele: pals
Los Angeles – A grim chapter in the Reiner family has unfolded when Rob Reiner’s son, 32‑year‑old Nick, was arrested on a charge of fatally slitting the throats of his parents in the duo’s Brentwood mansion. Those who have known Nick for years say the incident is far from a first.
“This is not the first time their son has been violent,” one long‑time neighbor told The Post, recalling other episodes that left the family shaken. The neighbor added, “I know of another incident a few years back with Nick, but I won’t say more than that. I just never thought it would ever get to this point.”
In addition, the same neighbor noted that Rob and Michele had repeatedly urged Nick to seek treatment. “I know they wanted him to get help, go to rehab, but he wanted to get help while at home — he did not want to get treatment at a facility,” the resident explained, reflecting on the son’s struggles with drugs for years.
Another resident, who had observed the family’s ongoing tensions, said, “And I know they have argued about that for years. Nick has had demons for the longest.”
“It’s such a nightmare,” the source said. “The whole thing is a tragedy.”
A former classmate of Nick’s, who was familiar with his troubled history, told The Post that the suspect had “always been troubled” and that she “instantly knew it was him” when news of the crime broke. A second resident, who had also known the family, added, “I wasn’t surprised to learn Nick was charged with killing his famed Hollywood actor, 78, and director dad and wife Michele, 68.”
