Indian-American Congressman Suhas Subramanyam has strongly spoken out against a wave of attacks on Hindu temples across the US. He called these “hateful” incidents a sign of rising violence against places of worship, urging everyone to fight back against hate.

In a passionate speech on the House floor early Wednesday (Indian time), Subramanyam made it clear: “Hate has no place in our communities.” He highlighted specific cases, like the vandalism at the BAPS Sri Swaminarayan Mandir in Indiana and the shooting at the Shri Shri Radha Krishna Temple in Utah. “These attacks on sacred spaces aren’t just random—they’re part of a bigger surge in division and violence hitting all faith communities,” he said.

Subramanyam stressed that every American should feel safe practicing their religion. “We must push for more security funding for temples and other places of worship,” he added. He promised to team up with lawmakers from both parties to tackle this growing hate and protect communities.

These remarks come amid a troubling series of incidents targeting Hindu temples in the US. Just last month in August, vandals hit the BAPS Swaminarayan Temple in Greenwood, Indiana, with anti-India and anti-Hindu graffiti. In July, gunshots rang out—about 20-30 bullets—at the Sri Sri Radha Krishna Temple in Spanish Fork, Utah, while people were inside praying. On August 28, burglars broke into the temple in Santa Clara, California, stealing the donation box and ornaments. Back in March, another temple in Chino Hills, Southern California, faced similar vandalism with anti-India messages.

Hindu advocacy groups in the US, like the Coalition of Hindus of North America (CoHNA) and Hindu ACTion, cheered Subramanyam’s stand against the attacks on Hindu temples and rising anti-Hindu hate. In a post on X, CoHNA said, “American Hindus are hurting. How can they find spiritual peace when their temples get targeted? We applaud Congressman Suhas Subramanyam for speaking up for justice and urge more leaders to demand real action.”
