Sonam Wangchuk, a prominent activist from Ladakh, has called for an independent judicial inquiry into the killing of four protestors in Leh. He said he is ready to stay in jail until the investigation begins.
Wangchuk is currently held in Jodhpur Central Jail after being arrested on September 26, just two days after violence erupted in the Ladakh capital. Police said he was booked under the National Security Act for allegedly encouraging the unrest that left four people dead and 80 others hurt.
On X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, Sajjad Kargili—leader of the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA)—shared that his message reached Wangchuk through his brother, Ka Tsetan Dorjey Ley, and lawyer Mustafa Haji, who met him in the jail on October 4.
In his statement, Wangchuk thanked supporters for their prayers and expressed deep sympathy for the families of those who were killed and the injured. He reaffirmed his support for the Apex Body and the KDA in pursuing Ladakh’s demand for statehood and inclusion in the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution. Wangchuk urged the people of Ladakh to continue their struggle peacefully and keep the spirit of non‑violence alive.
