A black‑faced terrier named Moose was found hiding under a northbound 2 train at Manhattan’s 14th Street subway station, and NYPD Transit officers quickly rescued the small dog from the tracks.
The incident began when Moose slipped away from its owners during a walk and ran onto the subway platform. The dog was struck by a passing train, then ran under the car for safety. Officers from the NYPD Special Ops Emergency Service Unit spotted the pawed figure on the platform and heard the sniffed call, “Where is it?” before the dog was visible beneath a shadowed section of the train.
Body‑cam footage released by the department shows an officer climbing a ladder down to the tracks, flashlight in hand, searching for the missing pup. As he shone the beam, Moose peered out, and the officer calmly called, “Come here, buddy.” One of his colleagues pulled the dog out of the darkness, lifted him onto the platform, and the team surrounded him, keeping the track’s danger at bay.
“Thanks to the NYPD Transit officers,” the agency posted to X, “Moose is safely back home.” The dog was taken to a nearby station, where another officer could see the owner approaching. The parents ran to Moose, hugged him tight, and the relieved pup was showered with pats in a triumphant reunion.
This isn’t the first time NYPD officers have saved small dogs in New York. Earlier this year, a crew swooped in to rescue a frightened pup that had been spotted swimming in the East River. The department remains quick to respond to pet emergencies in the city.
The body‑cam clip of the rescue quickly spread on social media, raising a wave of smiles among city dwellers who praised the officers for their quick thinking and compassion. The incident serves as a reminder that when pets go missing in the urban maze, help is often just a subway platform away.
