On a quiet Monday morning in Lower Manhattan, a NYU student was unexpectedly shoved to the floor while walking toward her 9:30 a.m. class, and the whole incident was caught on street‑level surveillance camera. The footage shows a man tracking her across Broadway, then looming behind her to deliver a sudden punch and push her onto the sidewalk before walking away, leaving witnesses stunned.
The student, who posted the clip on X, responded with raw emotion. “I just really want to emphasize how not ok this is. I am a student at NYU. I should not be scared to be walking the street to go to my 9:30 a.m. class,” she recorded, while also noting that “It’s honestly a really hard watch.” Her video was accompanied by a brief clip of the attack, and she added, “I’m honestly still in shock, but I’m more enraged that things like this are able to happen in this city, and we really need to do something about it because this is unacceptable.”
She urged viewers to examine their political choices, telling followers, “This just shows that you really need to reflect on who you’re voting for and supporting right now, because New York needs help and we’re just not getting the help we need and this is crazy.”
No complaint has yet been filed with the NYPD, but police are reportedly investigating the assault. In describing the assailant, the student said he was “a tall white male with tall brunette hair and a long brunette beard, and is wearing grey sweatpants and a big black fur jacket and a blue towel around his neck.”
