Akon and Wife Tomeka Thiam Head for Divorce After Nearly 29 Years
In a shocking turn, singer Akon and his wife Tomeka Thiam are calling it quits on their marriage. Thiam filed for divorce on September 11, just days before their 29th anniversary. The news comes straight from court documents shared by PEOPLE magazine.
The couple, who tied the knot back in 1996, now face irreconcilable differences, according to the filing. Thiam listed their separation date as "to be determined," but one thing’s clear—they share a 17-year-old daughter named Journey.
Thiam wants joint legal custody of Journey, but she’s pushing for primary physical custody. Akon would get visitation rights. She’s also asking for spousal support, while making sure the court denies him the same.
