Arkansas Powerball Winner Takes Home a $1.82 B Jackpot
An Arkansas ticket holder hit the second‑largest Powerball jackpot ever at $1.82 billion on Wednesday night. The winning numbers were 4‑25‑31‑52‑59 with the Powerball ball reading 19.
The lucky purchaser now faces a choice: accept the jackpot as an annuity of $1.82 billion paid over 29 years, or take a lump‑sum cash payout of $834.9 million. Either way, the pick–up value reflects the tax‑deferred nature of the annuity versus the immediate, but lower, cash option.
This win marks only the second occasion the Powerball prize has eclipsed the $1.5 billion threshold. The highest ever was the $2.04 billion jackpot won by Edwin Castro in California in November 2022. The most recent one—shared by two anonymous bettors from Missouri and Texas on September 6—came in at $1.78 billion, which these players received as a single $410.3 million cash settlement.
Powerball’s history also contains a rare holiday payoff: a Christmas‑Eve prize in 2011 went to a Maryland ticket holder who cashed $128.8 million.
Lottery officials underline that the odds of matching all six numbers plus the Powerball are 1 in 292,201,338, a reminder of why such fortunes are exceptionally rare.
