Kannada Actor Darshan Pleads for ‘Drop of Poison’ in Court Amid Jail Hardships
Bengaluru’s jailed Kannada superstar Darshan Thoogudeepa has made a shocking plea in court, asking for "a drop of poison" to end his suffering in prison. The actor, currently locked up in Bengaluru Central Prison over the Renukaswamy murder case, broke down in tears during a video conference hearing on Tuesday. His desperate request highlights the tough conditions he’s facing behind bars, sparking widespread attention.
Appearing before the 57th City Civil and Sessions Court (CCH) via video link, Darshan looked frail and weak— a far cry from his strong build when arrested. As the session wrapped up, he raised his hand and shared his ordeal. "It’s been over a month since I saw sunlight, and fungus has infected my hands," he said emotionally. "Please order a drop of poison for me in court—I can’t live like this anymore." He made it clear he wanted the poison only for himself, not for other accused in the high-profile fan murder case.
The judge quickly stepped in, advising Darshan against such extreme demands in court. "We’ll issue appropriate orders to the prison authorities," the judge assured him. Later that afternoon, the court promised to address his plea formally. Darshan also asked for basic comforts like a pillow, bedsheets, and home-cooked food to ease his jail life. He nodded in agreement after the judge’s words and stayed quiet as the hearing ended.
This isn’t just about Darshan’s personal struggles—the court is also considering shifting him and other accused to different prisons across Karnataka for better management. The next big update? Charges in the Renukaswamy murder case will be framed on September 19, with witness investigations kicking off soon to keep things moving.
Supreme Court Cracks Down on Darshan’s Bail
Darshan’s current woes stem from a recent Supreme Court ruling that canceled his bail. In a strong verdict by Justices J.B. Pardiwala and R. Mahadevan, the top court slammed the Karnataka High Court’s earlier decision to grant him bail. "This isn’t a conviction or acquittal—it’s a bail matter," the bench remarked, questioning if the High Court issues such orders in other cases. They called it a "prima facie misuse of judicial power" and warned against repeating such mistakes, especially from a High Court judge.
The Kannada actor Darshan fan murder case has gripped the nation since June 9, 2024, when 33-year-old Renukaswamy’s body was found on a Bengaluru flyover. A die-hard fan of Darshan, Renukaswamy was allegedly kidnapped and tortured to death in Pattangere village at the actor’s instructions. Reports say the motive was Renukaswamy’s alleged harassment of Darshan’s close friend, Pavitra Gowda. After the brutal beating, Darshan reportedly got a WhatsApp update about the murder.
As the case heats up, fans and followers are watching closely. Will the court grant Darshan any relief from his prison hardships? Stay tuned for updates on this unfolding Bengaluru murder case story.
