A post‑war Japanese toy car called the “Honeymoon Car” just changed hands for a record $233,700, beating the starting price of a new Tesla Roadster, which is expected to hover around $200,000–$225,000.
The robot‑ridden convertible—its driver and passenger both in miniature android suits—seems to have drawn inspiration from American 1950s convertibles. Produced by the ET company, the silver model boasts a prominent grille, tailfins, and a blue‑tinted windshield, and it’s probably one of only two in existence that still keep their original packaging.
At the November 11–13 “Toys & General Collectables” sale in Pennsylvania, the car received 37 offers before finally going to an American buyer for nearly triple its high estimate. The auction, which featured 1,375 items, pulled in a total of $1.66 million across all bids.
