A body found in a shallow grave behind an empty middle school in East Germantown, Philadelphia, has been identified as 23‑year‑old beauty queen Kada Scott. The police said DNA testing confirmed the remains belong to the woman who vanished on Oct. 4 after leaving her job at The Terrace assisted‑living facility in Chestnut Hill.
Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner announced the identification during a Monday news conference. “This is an ever‑evolving situation,” he said. “We have some details we can share now, but others remain confidential for investigative reasons.” Krasner also said that homicide charges will come once enough evidence confirms the cause of death.
Scott, who represented Philadelphia Township in the Miss Pennsylvania USA Pageant, disappeared the day after she left work. Police believe she was taken by a man named Keon King after she went radio‑silent. King, a 21‑year‑old, allegedly drove Scott’s body to the abandoned school in a stolen 2008 black Hyundai Accent and then set the vehicle on fire. Surveillance footage that captured the incident is being reviewed by the police.
In addition to the kidnapping charge, King faces new charges Sunday, including arson, causing a catastrophe, conspiracy, unauthorized use of a vehicle, tampering with evidence, reckless endangerment, and receiving stolen property. He has already been charged with kidnapping for ransom, false imprisonment, stalking, reckless endangerment, and tampering with evidence in a January case where he was accused of stalking a woman, abducting her from her home, and assaulting her in his car.
Police say they have yet to determine the exact cause of Scott’s death, but prosecutors will file murder charges when they can establish probable cause. “We’ll bring homicide charges when we can confirm everything we need for probable cause,” Krasner told reporters.
Scott’s family issued a statement expressing their grief and asking for privacy. “It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of our beloved daughter, Kada Scott,” the family wrote. They thanked people nationwide for prayers and support, and asked that people continue to pray for “this unimaginable loss.” The family added that Kada’s kindness, light, and beautiful spirit will forever remain in their hearts.
The case highlights a terrible crime in Philadelphia and a community in mourning. Authorities continue to investigate how the missing beauty queen was found where she is and how her alleged kidnapper may have caused her death.
