Retired NYC restaurant owner charged with DUI in Florida golf cart crash that killed his wife

A retiree who used to run a small dinner in Queens is now facing a DUI charge after his wife was killed in a golf‑cart crash at their dream retirement spot in Florida late last month while he was behind the wheel.

Angelo Theodosiou, 64, and his wife Christina Theodosiou, 58, were making their way through Nocatee, an unincorporated coastal area of Florida, on Nov. 30 when the tragedy occurred.

Christina fell from the golf cart and struck her head against the pavement at about 10:45 p.m. She was taken to a nearby hospital but died from her injuries the following day, according to an arrest report Law & Crime obtained.

Investigators noted that Angelo Theodosiou’s “eyes were bloodshot and watery and pupils displayed a reddened sclera.” Officers also could smell “an odor of alcoholic beverage.” on him “from approximately three feet away in an open area,” the report states.

At the scene, a distraught Angelo Theodosiou declined to take a standard field‑sobriety test and also refused a breathalyzer.

Authorities mention that he was repeatedly asked why he was being arrested and what had happened the next day.

Angelo’s lawyer, L. Lee Lockett, said the widower is “heartbroken” and insists he was not impaired the night of the accident.

“He’s distraught. He’s depressed as can be,” Lockett told the St. John’s Citizen.

Angelo was charged with driving under the influence and refusing to submit to police testing. He was given bond and freed from jail the day after his arrest, per Law and Crime.

Residents nearby said they expected a new greenway path to create more traffic headaches, noting recent close‑calls between golf carts and e‑bikes.

Angelo had owned the Jackson House Restaurant in Jackson Heights, Queens, according to a 2018 article by students at the School of the New York Times.

He and his brother ran the establishment, keeping the original name after they bought the property in the 1990s. Under their stewardship, Angelo told the students that they aimed to treat every customer like “family.”

“It might sound corny, but it’s really true,” he said.

It remains unclear when he retired and relocated to the Sunshine State.
