Royal Caribbean cruise passenger was served 33 drinks before he died in custody: lawsuit

The Royal Caribbean passenger’s death has now been classified as a homicide. A new lawsuit revealed that, on the night of his passing, crew members handed him almost thirty drinks at the ship’s bar. Michael Virgil, 35, was served 33 drinks that evening in December 2024 and later died while in custody. His family claims he was given a sedative to calm him, which may have caused his death, and the lawsuit maintains that his cause of death was altered to homicide. The wrongful‑death case now alleges that Virgil was detained during a drunken altercation in which he allegedly threatened crew members and other passengers.
