A 38‑year‑old woman, identified as Jessica Alejandra Sanchez Landaverde, was discovered beaten inside her apartment this past Sunday. San Francisco officials has now charged a local homeless man, Cassidy Allen, with her murder.
On Wednesday, Allen was arraigned on a single murder count. The indictment also includes a special circumstance claim tied to a first‑degree burglary and a separate charge for first‑degree residential burglary, according to District Attorney Brooke Jenkins.
According to the latest court filings, San‑Francisco Police were dispatched to the 200 block of Granada Avenue on November 23 around 2:52 p.m. after a burglary report mentioned that the suspect had fled. Officers spoke to a tenant who said she heard someone inside run to the front door and lock it. She left the building in a hurry and called 9‑1‑1.
When the officers entered the unit, they noticed the left‑hand window of the front door was slightly ajar and the blinds inside were bent and scuffed. Outside, the front door itself had no clear signs of forced entry. In the hallway officers found a bedroom door half open. Pushing it closed revealed the victim lying on her back at the foot of the bed, head angled toward the door.
Allen was taken into custody a short time later during an unrelated welfare check at 19th Avenue and Sloat Boulevard after officers saw a man on the sidewalk matching the suspect’s description. He was booked at County Jail at 8:19 a.m. Monday.
Neighbors of the victim recalled that Sanchez Landaverde was a private individual who kept to herself. While many residents knew other locals, they said they had rarely seen her. One neighbor remarked that they had spotted the suspect, Cassidy Allen, “lurking around the neighborhood” in the days leading up to the attack.
Court documents obtained by the California Post show that Allen was enrolled in a diversion program even though he had past arrests for second‑degree robbery, battery, assault with a deadly weapon, injuries to an elder or dependent adult, and possession of burglary tools and drug paraphernalia.
Prosecutors said they will pursue a continued pre‑trial detention of Allen, describing him as a threat to public safety.
Investigation of Sanchez Landaverde’s death is ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to call the SFPD tip line at 415‑575‑4444 or text TIP411, beginning the message with “SFPD.”
