Strict action against anyone for violating law and order, says official after violent protest over “I Love Muhammad” row

Authorities in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, promise tough measures against anyone stirring up trouble in the ongoing “I Love Mohammad” controversy. The district stays on edge after violent protests erupted on September 26, and investigations continue to uncover more details.

Manikandan A, vice chairman of the Bareilly Development Authority, shared updates with reporters. He explained that police and local officials swiftly cracked down on the law and order breaches that followed Friday prayers. “We’ve sealed properties linked to the main suspects behind this plot, including a two-story shop,” he said. “Our probe is ongoing, and we’ll take strict action against violators to maintain peace. If demolition orders come through, we’ll carry them out.”

Tensions boiled over when a crowd gathered outside the Ala Hazrat Dargah and the home of Ittehad-e-Millat Council chief Maulana Tauqeer Raza Khan. Protesters waved “I Love Mohammad” placards and clashed with police, hurling stones that injured officers and damaged public property. Police point to provocative WhatsApp messages as a key trigger for the unrest.

On Tuesday, Uttar Pradesh police arrested Maulana Mohsin Raza, tying him to the September 26 Bareilly protests. Officials followed up by using bulldozers on his property. Mohsin connects to Maulana Tauqeer Raza, already in judicial custody as the alleged mastermind.

Bareilly Range Deputy Inspector General Ajay Kumar Sahni provided more insights. “We’ve nabbed many of Tauqeer Raza’s associates, backed by solid evidence,” Sahni told reporters. “Arrests include people from Bengal and Bihar. This wasn’t a spur-of-the-moment outburst—it was pre-planned, with posters and banners ready in advance.”

The crackdown widened as police rounded up 56 individuals, including Nadeem Khan, a major figure in inciting the stone pelting. Bareilly Senior Superintendent of Police Anurag Arya confirmed the arrest, noting Nadeem’s role in fueling the violence.

Heavy police presence blankets the city, keeping watch as Bareilly remains tense from the “I Love Mohammad” row. Officials urge calm while vowing to prevent further Bareilly protests and restore order in Uttar Pradesh.
