A new Trump‑era interagency task force is set to review how the Biden administration allegedly misused federal intelligence and law‑enforcement agencies. The effort, led by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the CIA, the FBI and the Department of Justice, follows a January 20 executive order that asked for a complete audit of intelligence‑community activities over the last four years.
The working group, called the Interagency Weaponization Working Group (IWWG), will investigate claims that the Biden team targeted the New York Post’s famous Hunter Biden laptop story and spread false warnings to social media firms that the emails were Russian disinformation.
It will also look into alleged collusion between Biden aides and 51 former intelligence officials, criticism that the FBI tipped platforms about the laptop, and accusations that agencies interfered in the 2020 election.
“What we’re doing is a fact‑based review,” a senior Office of Director of National Intelligence official said. “There is no individual target for retribution – just an audit of any misused authority.”
Beyond the laptop saga, the IWWG will examine claims that federal agencies weaponized the government against certain groups. Reported investigations include prosecutions of college students known as “J6ers,” Catholic conservatives, parents who joined school‑board meetings, and people who publicly criticized COVID‑19 policies. A memo that purportedly singled out “radical traditionalist Catholics” has also caught the eye of the task force.
The group will look at the Federal aviation agency’s “Quiet Skies” program that allegedly monitored Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard’s flights. Gabbard, who convened biweekly meetings in April, said the working group aims to provide accountability for the alleged misuse of government power against the American people.
“Our goal is clear,” Gabbard said in a statement. “We’re ending the Biden administration’s dangerous weaponization of federal agencies and restoring trust in our institutions.”
The IWWG will also examine discrepancies in how the justice system treated Jan. 6 Capitol rioters compared with protestors during the 2020 Black Lives Matter movement. Additionally, investigators will review claims that social media platforms suppressed accurate COVID‑19 information and vaccine data.
The final report will be delivered to President Trump at a later date, offering a detailed assessment of alleged abuses across the intelligence and law‑enforcement community. The effort signals a broader push by the new administration to scrutinise the actions of the Biden administration and to reset the relationship between federal power and public accountability.
