Trump declares his love for all US citizens — even ones he dislikes — after citing Jesus at Christmas tree lighting

During the national Christmas tree‑lighting ceremony just outside the White House, 79‑year‑old President Trump said he loves “all of our great citizens,” adding that this affection extends to the people he traditionally finds difficult.

After citing Jesus’s example, he spoke of how the birth of Christ shifted history from darkness to light and urged Americans to love, serve, and honor each other, as every child is “specially made in the image of God.” He turned to the crowd and said, “I want to pay my deepest respect and love to all of our great citizens, like 350 million people.” Trump followed up with the same sentiment: “We love them all, whether you like them or not. We want to take care of everybody in our country.”

The president’s holiday warmth contrasts sharply with his recent remarks aimed at journalists, whom he described as “ugly,” “stupid,” and “terrible,” even calling one a “piggy” after she inquired about documents related to the deceased pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

While speaking to a large outdoor audience, Trump also highlighted peace agreements he helped broker this year, expressing hope that the Russia‑Ukraine conflict will soon join that list. He mentioned the tragic shooting of two National Guard members on Thanksgiving Eve—an incident attributed to an Afghan asylum seeker that has led to paused asylum processing, a review of green‑card holders, and a halt on visas for other Afghans.

In a somber tone, Trump said, “I want to pay my highest respects to those two great guardsmen you know who I’m talking about.” He added, “One has made the ultimate sacrifice, and Andrew Wolfe is getting better. Sarah Beckstrom, unfortunately, is watching from here in heaven. Parents are so incredible, and Andrew is hopefully getting better. I spoke with the parents and met with them today—Andrew’s parents have spirit, and they love our country so much, you wouldn’t believe.”

The event also featured guests such as First Lady Melania Trump, hockey legend Wayne Gretzky, members of The Beach Boys, and Cabinet officials.

Looking forward, Trump offered an upbeat assessment of progress: “As a nation, we have much to be grateful for. On this holiday season, our border is secure, and our spirit is restored.” He concluded with confidence in America’s future: “Our economy is thriving. Inflation has stopped. Our nation is strong, and America is back—bigger, better, stronger, better than ever.”
