Trump lists 23 countries as major drug transits; names Pakistan, China

US President Trump Lists 23 Countries as Key Players in Global Drug Trade

US President Donald Trump has spotlighted 23 countries as major hubs for drug transit or illicit drug production. In a key Presidential Determination sent to Congress, he reaffirmed America’s strong commitment to tackling the illegal drug trade that threatens lives across the nation.

Among the countries on this list are powerhouses like China, Afghanistan, India, and Pakistan. The full roster also includes The Bahamas, Belize, Bolivia, Burma, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Laos, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, and Venezuela.

Trump went further by calling out five nations—Afghanistan, Bolivia, Burma, Colombia, and Venezuela—for falling short. He noted they haven’t met their international promises on counternarcotics efforts or stepped up measures to fight drug production and trafficking in the past year.

But here’s the important part: Making the list doesn’t mean a country’s government is slacking on drug control or not teaming up with the US. The determination explains that these nations end up there due to a mix of geography, trade routes, and economic factors that make it easy for drugs or their raw chemicals to flow through or get made. Even if leaders are working hard on enforcement, these real-world elements keep the problem alive.

This comes at a time when global drug trafficking networks are getting bolder. Just recently, India’s Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) cracked down on a massive transnational drug syndicate. Teaming up with other agencies, they busted a group smuggling controlled medicines across four continents using encrypted apps, sneaky drop-shipping tricks, and cryptocurrency to stay under the radar.

The breakthrough happened during a routine vehicle check near Bengali Market in New Delhi. It exposed a criminal web stretching from India to the United States, Australia, and Europe—highlighting how far-reaching these illicit pharma networks can be and how effectively the NCB leads international busts.

The US Embassy in India gave a big shoutout to the NCB for their efforts. "Thanks to NCB and Indian authorities for helping protect Americans against illegal drugs and saving American lives!" they posted, underscoring the strong US-India partnership in the fight against drug trafficking.
