Marco Rubio, the U.S. Secretary of State, handed President Donald Trump a handwritten note in the White House yesterday. The note, written on official stationery, asked Trump to approve a Truth Social post that would announce details of a Middle‑East deal before the White House releases the information publicly.
The brief message was short and urgent: “You need to approve a Truth Social post soon so you can announce the deal first.” Rubio had not been part of the round‑table discussion with conservative influencers, but he entered the room, handed the note to Trump, and whispered his request.
The request comes as the third day of Gaza ceasefire talks continues in Sharm el‑Sheikh, Egypt. Trump said he might travel to Egypt this weekend to press the final talks on his 20‑point plan aimed at ending fighting between Israel and Hamas. He told reporters, “We’re very close, and we need to move quickly. I might head there on Sunday or Saturday evening, depending on the schedule.”
Meanwhile, the region continues to feel the conflict’s toll. The Gaza Health Ministry reports that at least eight Palestinians were killed and 61 injured in Israeli attacks over the last 24 hours. Over the past two years, roughly 42,000 Palestinians have sustained major injuries in Gaza—one‑quarter of them children—and more than 5,000 have lost limbs, according to the United Nations.
In a related development, Spanish parliamentarians voted to impose an arms embargo on Israel. Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez introduced the measure as a response to what he called a “genocide” in Gaza, aiming to halt the sale of weapons and defense technology to the Israeli government.
The Israel‑Gaza conflict has now claimed at least 67,183 lives and wounded 169,841 people since it began in October 2023. The October 7 attacks on Israel resulted in 1,139 deaths and about 200 captives. Thousands more remain buried under collapsed buildings, while the international community watches the fragile ceasefire negotiations unfold.
