President Trump took aim at “Squad” member Rep. Ilhan Omar, branding her a “terrible person” and accusing her of belittling the nation while he sketched out a $1 billion fraud scandal that has taken hold in her state.
“When I see somebody like Ilhan Omar, who I don’t at all, but I’ve always watched her for years, I’ve watched her complain about our Constitution, how she’s being treated badly,” Trump vented during his cabinet meeting on Tuesday.
“Hates everybody, hates Jewish people, hates everybody. And I think she’s an incompetent person. She’s a real terrible person.”
His attack came as Trump blasted the Minnesota “Feeding Our Future” scheme, in which roughly $1 billion of taxpayer money was siphoned. He related the theft to Somali immigrants in Minnesota and said he did not want them in the United States.
“They contribute nothing. I don’t want them in our country,” Trump told reporters.
“Their country is no good for a reason. Your country stinks and we don’t want them in our country.”
“You know, our country is at a tipping point,” he added. “We’re going to go the wrong way if we keep taking in garbage into our country. Ilhan Omar is garbage. She’s garbage. Her friends are garbage.”
“These are people that do nothing but complain. They complain and from where they came from, they got nothing,” he continued. “When they come from hell, and they complain and do nothing but b—, we don’t want them in our country.”
Omar, a Somali‑American who, alongside Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D‑Mich.), became the first Muslim woman ever elected to the House, responded on X. She wrote, His obsession with me is creepy. I hope he gets the help he desperately needs.
Despite their fallout, Omar had previously defended Trump. According to Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R‑Fla.), she stepped in when a Belgian diplomat criticized the president during a meeting in April. “You might not like what our president is doing, and you might not agree with our foreign policy,” Omar replied, according to Luna. “But when we’re here, you will respect our president!”
Trump’s comments arrive amid mounting scrutiny of the Feeding Our Future fraud ring that has left Minnesota’s generosity under fire. Last week, the Justice Department announced charges against the 78th defendant in the scheme, bringing the total number of convicted individuals to at least 59.
The scandal centers on nonprofits that collected money for social services they never delivered. Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) has faced criticism for overseeing the crisis. “I think the man’s a grossly incompetent man,” Trump said of Walz.
