Trump Urges Foreign Companies to Bring Experts to Train US Workers in High-Tech Manufacturing
US President Donald Trump has a clear message for foreign companies eyeing big investments in America: don’t just pour in the money—bring your top experts too. He wants them to train American workers on building complex, high-tech products like semiconductors, ships, and advanced machinery. Trump shared this idea in a post on Truth Social, stressing how the US needs to rebuild its manufacturing skills.
"Foreign companies building complex products, machines, and more are making massive investments in the United States," Trump wrote. "I want them to bring their experts for a while to teach and train our people how to make these unique items. As they head back home, we’ll take over."
Trump believes this knowledge transfer is key to making foreign investments truly pay off and reviving American industrial power. He pointed out that without it, those huge investments in chips, semiconductors, computers, ships, trains, and other products might not happen at all. "We have to learn from others how to make them—or relearn, because we used to be great at it, but not anymore," he added.
He highlighted shipbuilding as a stark example. Back in the day, the US built a ship every single day. Now? It barely manages one a year. Trump says letting foreign experts help temporarily will spark long-term independence and even push the US to outdo the world in these fields.
Trump made it clear he doesn’t want to scare off investors. "We welcome foreign companies and their employees to America," he said. "We’re proud to learn from them and do even better at their own game soon!"
This push comes as the US ramps up efforts to strengthen its domestic manufacturing amid global trade tensions. Washington has slapped tariffs on imports from countries like China, Mexico, and Canada, encouraging companies—especially car manufacturers—to set up shop in the US and dodge those costs.
Just earlier this month, Trump noted during a White House press conference that thousands of firms are flocking to America. "Car companies from China, Mexico, and Canada are coming here because they like it, the tariffs protect them, and they avoid paying extra when building cars on US soil," he explained.
Trump’s call for expert training in US manufacturing could boost sectors like semiconductors and shipbuilding, helping America reclaim its spot as a global leader in high-tech production.
