Vice President JD Vance kicked off Monday’s episode of The Charlie Kirk Show by sharing a heartfelt shoutout to the late Charlie Kirk, crediting him for pushing President Trump to pick him as the running mate in the Trump-Vance campaign.
“I owe so much to Charlie,” Vance said, explaining how Kirk’s strong advocacy helped land him on the ticket. He promised to dive deeper into what he called the “incredibly destructive movement of left-wing extremism,” linking it directly to Kirk’s tragic assassination.
“I believe it’s part of the reason why Charlie was killed by an assassin’s bullet,” Vance added. “We’re going to talk about how to dismantle that and bring real unity—the kind that only comes when we tell the truth.” He urged viewers to see Kirk’s killing as part of a bigger wave of political violence in the US.
The show featured tributes from top Trump administration figures, including White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt and Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller. Vance noted that several guests would join to honor Kirk, whom he described as a key ally to Trump and the entire team.
This emotional episode aired just days after Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA and a major voice in conservative activism, was fatally shot while hosting an event. The FBI arrested the alleged gunman, Tyler Robinson, late Thursday evening right after the incident.
President Trump spoke to the media on Sunday about the loss, calling Kirk “a great person.” He shared plans to head to Arizona early Sunday morning on Air Force One with a group, saying, “We’re going to be going Saturday early, early on Sunday morning.” Trump had previously blamed the radical left for the shooting in a Thursday address and told NBC News on Saturday that such groups were blocking efforts to unite the country.
