White House resuming tours to show off Melania Trump’s Christmas decor after East Wing demolition
The White House is opening its doors again for public tours, starting December 2, 2025, after a pause that began in August. Visitors will be able to see First Lady Melania Trump’s Christmas decorations, even though the East Wing—once a popular entryway—was demolished to make way for a new $300 million ballroom.
The White House’s official statement says the tours will use a new route that highlights the history and beauty of the presidential residence. All December visits will showcase holiday décor on the State Floor, with each room’s decorations thoughtfully chosen by Melania Trump. Tour spots are booked via congressional offices, and guests can explore the basement and ground‑floor rooms of the executive mansion.
Previously, visitors entered through the East Wing and walked down a hallway that had become a selfie hotspot for holiday lights. That space is gone, but the new ballroom will replace it. The White House’s “People’s House” will still let the public see the iconic White House Christmas tree and other festive displays.
Melania Trump has long overseen the White House Christmas preparations. In 2020, a leaked interview suggested she had mixed feelings about the tradition, saying she worked hard on the decorations but wasn’t sure she cared about them.
Summer guests and fans alike can now plan a holiday tour of the White House to see the latest decorations, the new ballroom, and the history of the former East Wing. The next tour begins on Tuesday, December 2, 2025.
