US President Donald Trump announced Wednesday that he’ll sit down with Chinese President Xi Jinping in about four weeks, putting US soybeans front and center in their talks. With China holding back on soybean purchases as a bargaining chip in trade negotiations, American farmers are feeling the pinch, Trump said in a fiery Truth Social post.
“Our soybean farmers are getting hurt because China isn’t buying—for negotiating reasons only,” Trump wrote. He pointed out that tariffs on Chinese goods have brought in big bucks for the US, and now the government plans to dip into that cash to support farmers. “We’ve made so much money on tariffs that we’re going to take a small portion of that money and help our farmers,” he added. “I will never let our farmers down!”
Trump didn’t hold back on his criticism of former President Joe Biden, accusing him of failing to enforce a key agreement that promised China would buy billions in US farm products, especially soybeans. “It’s all going to work out very well,” Trump assured. “I love our patriots, and every farmer is exactly that! Make soybeans and other row crops great again!”
This latest move comes just weeks after Trump revealed on September 20 that Xi had greenlit a deal to keep the popular video app TikTok running in the US. Chatting with reporters in the Oval Office, Trump described a positive phone call with Xi. “He approved the TikTok deal,” Trump said. “We look forward to getting the deal closed. It could be a formality.”
The president stressed that the US would keep a firm grip on the app, calling it a win for Washington. “We’re going to have very tight control,” he explained. “It’s an amazing thing that’s been created… I did so well on it—it got me numbers nobody’s ever heard before.” Trump noted the app’s huge appeal to young people and their parents, crediting his negotiations with China for making it happen. American investors—big names in finance—will take the reins, he said, and he thanked Xi for being a “gentleman” during their good working relationship.
