Savannah Kulla, a 29‑year‑old mother of four, was found dead in the parking lot of a Brampton shopping centre on Tuesday afternoon. Police say she was shot by her ex‑boyfriend, Anthony Deschepper, who then fled with Kulla’s 1‑year‑old daughter before he was killed by police in Niagara Falls.
The incident began when Deschepper allegedly kidnapped Kulla and their daughter. A police Amber Alert was issued for the child, who was later located safe with family members in Niagara Falls. According to the family, Deschepper handed the little girl over to relatives and then vanished.
Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) tracked Deschepper to a gas station in Niagara Falls around 2:30 a.m. The next morning, police officers engaged him in an altercation that ended with a shot being fired, killing Deschepper. Investigators found a firearm at the scene but had no evidence that he had fired at anyone.
An unidentified woman who is thought to have driven Deschepper during the “interaction” was also arrested. The exact nature of her relationship with Deschepper remains unclear.
Kulla’s mother, Karen, told local news outlets that Deschepper had become “obsessed” with her in recent weeks. “He was in love with her, to the point of being crazy,” Karen said. She added that Kulla had repeatedly tried to leave the relationship and that the ex had tried to stop her. Kids.
Kulla’s three sons, ages 6, 5 and 4, are currently in the care of their father, according to Karen. A GoFundMe page was launched by a childhood friend to help support the children’s future and to honor Kulla’s desire for a safe, loving environment for her family.
A post‑mortem examination of Deschepper is scheduled for Thursday.
