Washington — Nov. 23 (LatestNewsX) — U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that the peace proposal on Russia‑Ukraine had been crafted using input from Moscow, while also taking into account earlier ideas from Kyiv.
Heading to Geneva for talks about the settlement, Rubio insisted that the U.S. alone had put the proposal together.
Earlier, State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott said the framework was built in Washington but incorporated views from both sides.
On X, Pigott noted that “as Secretary Rubio and the entire Administration has consistently maintained, this plan was authored by the United States, with input from both the Russians and Ukrainians.”
President Donald Trump stated that the U.S.‑backed blueprint for ending the conflict is not his “final offer” to Kyiv.
His remarks followed concerns from Ukraine’s western allies that the draft needed significant revisions.
Speaking to reporters outside the White House on Saturday (local time), Trump warned that if President Volodymyr Zelenskyy rejects the proposal, he can “fight his little heart out.”
He urged Ukraine to decide by November 27, and when asked if the plan was his ultimate suggestion, Trump replied, “No, we’d like to get to peace. One way or another, we’ll get it ended.”
Trump also reiterated he believed the war wouldn’t have started had he been president in early 2022.
Zelenskyy cautioned that Ukraine is experiencing “one of the most difficult moments in our history,” as Washington pushes Kyiv to consider a plan many see as favoring Moscow.
Washington has set a November 27 deadline for Kyiv’s response, while Russian President Vladimir Putin described the draft as a possible “basis” for a final settlement.
In a solemn national address on Friday, Zelenskyy warned that the country might face a hard choice: “either losing dignity, or risk losing a key partner.” He pledged to protect “the dignity and freedom of Ukrainians” and promised Ukraine would keep working constructively with the U.S.
On Saturday, Zelenskyy named Chief of Staff Andriy Yermak to lead Ukraine’s negotiation team. He said Ukrainian officials “know how to defend Ukraine’s national interests” and would focus on preventing future Russian aggression.
