Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a warm welcome in Varanasi on Thursday as locals showered flowers on his convoy. The enthusiastic crowd lined the streets near the Taj Hotel, waving Indian Tricolour and BJP flags while chanting “Modi, Modi” in excitement.
The ancient city buzzed with energy, decked out in elaborate decorations for this key diplomatic event. PM Modi arrived in his home constituency to hold important bilateral talks with Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam. The discussions aim to boost the India-Mauritius Enhanced Strategic Partnership, highlighting deep cultural ties, spiritual connections, and strong people-to-people bonds between the two nations.
During the meeting, the leaders will review their full range of cooperation, focusing on development projects and capacity building. They’ll explore fresh opportunities in healthcare, education, science and technology, energy, and infrastructure. Special attention goes to renewable energy, digital public infrastructure, and the blue economy—key areas for future growth.
These talks build on the momentum from PM Modi’s March visit to Mauritius, where both countries upgraded their relationship to an Enhanced Strategic Partnership. As a vital maritime neighbor in the Indian Ocean Region, Mauritius supports India’s MAHASAGAR Vision for regional security and growth, along with the ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy. The partnership also advances shared goals for the Global South.
This Varanasi Summit promises to mark a milestone in India-Mauritius relations, strengthening commitments to mutual prosperity, sustainable development, and a secure future.
Earlier, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri met Mauritius PM Ramgoolam in Varanasi. They discussed the broad bilateral ties between New Delhi and Port Louis. The Ministry of External Affairs shared on X: “Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri called on PM Navinchandra Ramgoolam of Mauritius today in Varanasi. Discussed multifaceted partnership and reaffirmed commitment in strengthening India-Mauritius Enhanced Strategic Partnership anchored in shared history, culture & people-to-people ties.”
