The Vice‑President of India, CP Radhakrishnan, met Brazil’s Vice‑President and Minister of Development, Industry, Trade and Services, Geraldo Alckmin, in New Delhi on Thursday. The two leaders said they want to boost trade and economic ties and highlighted a number of key areas for deeper cooperation.
They focused on expanding energy collaboration, strengthening links in pharmaceuticals and defence, increasing research and investment, improving connectivity, and working together on new technologies such as artificial intelligence and digital transformation. Both sides stressed that their partnership can help drive inclusive and sustainable growth in both countries.
Alckmin’s official visit also included talks with India’s Commerce and Industry Minister, Piyush Goyal. Goyal praised the meeting, noting that the two leaders reviewed the full spectrum of bilateral trade and reaffirmed their shared commitment to deepen cooperation across energy, healthcare, agriculture and technology.
Defense officials were also in the mix. On Wednesday, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh met Alckmin and Brazil’s Defense Minister, Jose Múcio Monteiro Filho. They discussed extending military‑to‑military cooperation and boosting defense industrial collaboration.
During the visit, Alckmin is slated to meet External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri. The meetings aim to broaden cooperation on a range of shared interests, from trade to technology to defense.
