On December 4, a crack team from the Special Operations Group (SOG) in Jaipur uncovered a sweeping scheme that would have let bogus medical practitioners slip into Rajasthan’s health system. The SOG’s Additional Director General of Police, Vishal Bansal, announced that three men had been arrested after police traced their use of forged “Foreign Medical Graduate Examination” (FMGE) certificates—documents that foreigners need to pass before they can work in India.
The plot first drew attention when the SOG received tips that Dr Piyush Kumar Trivedi of Dausa had fabricated an FMGE clearance with the aid of a criminal ring. Using the forgery, he won approval from the National Medical Commission (NMC) and then gained an internship slot at the Government Medical College in Karauli. Once investigators double‑checked the paperwork, a formal case was opened and a full inquiry launched.
The probe uncovered that Trivedi actually earned his MBBS in Georgia but failed the FMGE exam three times (in 2022, 2023 and 2024), the mandatory screen for foreign graduates. After each failure, he turned to an acquaintance, Dr Devendra Singh Gurjar, who, along with Dr Shubham Gurjar and other associates, helped him obtain the fake FMGE clearance and NMC registration in exchange for a hefty 16‑lakh‑rupee bribe. Shockingly, the investigation found that the other two accused were involved in similar frauds: Shubham secured an internship at Rajiv Gandhi Hospital in Alwar, while Devendra secured one at the Government Medical College in Dausa, all based on counterfeit FMGE documents.
All three men were presented before a court and then held in police custody. In the wake of these arrests, the SOG is broadening its probe to map out the larger network of certifying fraudsters and anyone who may have benefited from the scheme. Police officials stressed that crimes of this nature undermine the entire medical profession and jeopardize public safety, and that those who participated will face severe legal consequences.
