Tripura police have arrested four people and suspended an officer after discovering a woman’s half-burnt body in Gomati district. The shocking incident unfolded in the Mirza area under Kakaraban police station, and officials are now racing to uncover the full story behind this brutal attack.

Gomati’s Superintendent of Police, Kiran Kumar K, confirmed the arrests on Saturday. He also announced the suspension of Assistant Sub-Inspector Sanjay Sarkar for failing in his duties during the case. “We acted quickly to detain the suspects linked to the body’s recovery,” the SP told reporters.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, who oversees the home department, jumped into the matter with a Facebook post Saturday night. He ordered a thorough probe into the Mirza killing and vowed justice. “Everyone behind this horrific crime will face the law. We’ve already nabbed four accused,” Saha wrote.

The victim was a mother of two, and her husband, Pankaj Sarkar, shared heartbreaking details. He claims five young men attacked his wife late Friday night. They beat her, doused her in petrol, and set her ablaze. She died from her injuries, and her body turned up half-burned on a nearby road Saturday morning.

Pankaj says the trouble started Thursday night when he and his wife ran their shop in Mirza market. Three men threatened and assaulted them over an old grudge. The couple rushed to Kakaraban police station to file a complaint, but police turned them away. “We went home exhausted and slept apart, like we sometimes do. The next morning, I found her body,” Pankaj alleged.

He also pointed fingers at one suspect, claiming he’s the nephew of a local BJP MLA. The MLA’s office didn’t respond to requests for comment.

Police have filed an initial report as an unnatural death under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. They’re waiting for the postmortem report, due Sunday, to add murder charges and other sections. “The investigation is ongoing, and we’re hunting for any remaining suspects,” a police official said. They admitted the couple were both BJP members in the community.

Opposition parties like Congress and CPI(M) slammed the police for mishandling the case. District Congress chief Titan Paul accused them of protecting the attackers. “They ignored the couple’s complaint at first and even let the accused chase them home from the station. This looks like a cover-up,” Paul said.

Leaders from the ruling BJP, along with Congress and CPI(M), visited the family’s home to offer condolences and promise tough action—no matter who the culprits are. As the probe deepens, residents in Gomati district are demanding swift justice in this tragic woman burnt alive case.
