India’s women’s cricket team is laser-focused on clinching the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup, with all-rounder Sneh Rana declaring their big dream: to “fill the trophy cabinet with a World Cup.”
The team kicks off their campaign against co-hosts Sri Lanka in Guwahati on September 30. Sneh, an off-spin bowling all-rounder, shared her excitement on JioHotstar’s show ‘Off the Pitch.’ “It’s always an honor to play in the World Cup,” she said. “As a cricketer, you dream of representing your nation on that stage. Playing at home makes it even more thrilling and challenging.”
She called it a special moment, especially for captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who’s been a star in women’s cricket for years. Fellow all-rounder Deepti Sharma echoed the hype, noting how the World Cup looms large in their minds during every bilateral series. “This is head coach Amol Muzumdar’s first World Cup, so it feels extra important,” Deepti said. “We’ll have massive crowds cheering us on in India, and we’re geared up for an unforgettable run.”
Sneh also praised the Women’s Premier League (WPL) for revolutionizing women’s cricket in India. “The WPL has been a game-changer,” she explained. “It lets us share the field with top international stars and pick their brains. We learn from elite foreign coaches—their strategies, quick thinking, and how they handle pressure. Even watching them in action teaches us tons.”
Wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh shared how the WPL boosted her skills behind the stumps. “I make sure to join every bowling meeting,” she said. “As a keeper, I need to stay in sync with the captain and bowlers. Teaming up with overseas players exposes me to fresh plans and tactics. It gives me an edge, whether I’m playing with them or against them.”
With home advantage and rising stars like these, India’s women’s team looks ready to chase that elusive World Cup glory.
