Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis shared the latest on the state’s flood crisis Tuesday, highlighting how rescue teams are working around the clock to help those hit hardest by heavy rains.
Speaking to reporters after a cabinet meeting, Fadnavis said nearly 17 divisions from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are on the ground in flood-affected areas. “We’re deploying these teams on a large scale,” he noted, adding that the government will send immediate compensation straight to farmers’ bank accounts within 10 days.
The floods stem from intense monsoon rains this season—Maharashtra has seen 975 mm of rainfall, which is 102% above the usual average. Districts like Dharashiv, Ahilyanagar, Jalgaon, Solapur, Beed, and Parbhani have taken the biggest hit in recent days, leading to widespread flooding and urgent rescue operations.
In Dharashiv district, NDRF teams used helicopters to evacuate people from danger zones, and the government has set up food and shelter for many displaced residents. Fadnavis emphasized the focus on quick aid, saying, “We’ve ordered Rs. 2,215 crores for farmers, with Rs. 1,829 crores already distributed to benefit over 31.64 lakh farmers. The rest will follow soon—the work never stops.”
To ramp up relief, all state ministers, including Fadnavis himself, plan to visit flood-hit spots tomorrow and check on ongoing efforts. “We’re doing everything we can to support people,” he said.
The heavy downpours have sparked flood-like conditions across multiple districts, prompting non-stop rescues since Monday night. NDRF teams have been key players in Beed, Dharashiv, and Solapur.
In Beed’s Majalgaon tehsil, rescuers pulled 39 people to safety overnight from the Sadas Chinchole area. Dharashiv saw even bigger action, with 182 residents saved from Kapilapuri village. In Solapur, teams evacuated 82 people and moved livestock to higher ground amid worsening conditions. Over in Ahilyanagar district’s Karjat tehsil, 17 folks got a safe lift out during evening operations.
As Maharashtra floods continue to disrupt lives, officials are keeping a close watch, with relief work in high gear to tackle the crisis.
