TN BJP hails PM Modi’s GST reforms, contrasts with Trump‘s tariff policies

In a bold move, the Tamil Nadu BJP praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s GST (Goods and Services Tax) reforms, calling it a “transformative step” that has revolutionized India’s economy. The party highlighted how these changes have made doing business easier and brought more transparency to the system.

BJP spokesperson A.N.S. Prasad said that under Modi’s leadership, India is entering a “golden era of growth and unity,” inspired by the ideas of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya. He explained that GST has helped reduce inflation, stop tax evasion, and create a fair environment for small traders and big companies alike.

He described GST as a “revolutionary reform” that has made prices more stable and made tax compliance seem like a patriotic duty, encouraging citizens to contribute to India’s progress.

Recently, the government announced new GST rate cuts, calling it an “early Diwali gift” for the nation. Taxes on essentials like tractors, household appliances, medical devices, petrol, and diesel were lowered, while the GST on 33 life-saving medicines was reduced to zero. This move aims to support farmers, small businesses, middle-class families, and those who depend on affordable healthcare.

The BJP spokesperson also contrasted India’s GST reforms with US President Donald Trump’s tariff policies. While Trump’s approach focused on trade restrictions for political reasons, Modi’s policies aim to boost inclusive growth and encourage global trade partnerships.

Prasad praised Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, calling her a symbol of women’s empowerment. Her leadership has turned GST into a global example of effective taxation, building confidence among entrepreneurs and ensuring benefits flow to all states.

He further mentioned that the government’s decision to remove the 12% and 28% GST slabs, announced during Independence Day 2025, has simplified the tax system. This change makes life easier for citizens and makes India more attractive for business.

Overall, BJP believes that GST is the backbone of India’s economic growth. It helps increase government revenues and brings every citizen closer to India’s shared prosperity as part of the Prime Minister’s vision of a developed India, or “Viksit Bharat.”
