In the spirit of Navratri, where women embody the power of Shakti, one young woman from Gujarat has soared to new heights thanks to government support for women’s empowerment. Vidhi Parmar, from Ahmedabad, always dreamed of becoming a pilot. Now, she’s living that dream as a commercial pilot, all because of a special loan scheme aimed at Scheduled Caste students.
Vidhi’s journey started with a childhood passion for flying. In 2023-24, she applied for the Loan Assistance Scheme for Scheduled Caste Students for Commercial Pilot Training, run by Gujarat’s Department of Social Justice and Empowerment. The government approved a ₹25 lakh loan at just 4% interest, letting her train at a flight school in Miami, USA. Today, she works as a ground instructor, earning ₹40,000 a month, and even helps support her family financially.
“I dreamed of being a pilot since I was a kid,” Vidhi shared. “This scheme made it possible. I’m so grateful to the Gujarat government for turning my aspiration into reality.”
The scheme offers up to ₹25 lakhs to help Scheduled Caste students cover training costs, including tuition and other expenses. To qualify, applicants need to have passed Class 10 or 12, or an equivalent exam. They must also meet the training institute’s entry requirements—whether in India or abroad—and provide a cost estimate from the school.
Gujarat’s government has long backed youth dreams, especially for women, through progressive initiatives. This pilot training loan is part of broader efforts to uplift Scheduled Castes and promote women’s empowerment in fields like education, sports, and more.
