Prime Minister Narendra Modi will join the vibrant Durga Puja celebrations at the famous Kali Mandir and Shiva Temple in South Delhi’s Chittaranjan Park (CR Park) on Tuesday. The visit comes on the holy day of Ashtami, right in the middle of the nine-day Navratri festival that brings huge crowds to the area every year.

Security teams from the Special Protection Group (SPG) scouted the site on Monday to prepare for Modi’s arrival. To keep things safe and smooth, locals have cleared vehicles from main roads near the venue. Street vendors and hawkers have also stepped aside temporarily to manage the expected rush of people.

Delhi Traffic Police has put out a warning about major jams in and around CR Park due to the festival crowds. Expect heavy congestion on key routes like the Outer Ring Road between Panchsheel and Greater Kailash, Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg, JB Tito Marg, Inder Mohan Bhardwaj Marg, and CR Park Main Road.

Drivers will face restrictions on Gurudwara Road, Bipin Chandra Pal Marg, and several side streets in CR Park and Greater Kailash-II. Traffic diversions kick in at spots under the Panchsheel, IIT, and Nehru Place flyovers. Light and heavy goods vehicles will reroute too.

If you’re traveling in Delhi, skip those spots and take detours like MG Road, Aurobindo Marg, Mathura Road, Lala Lajpat Rai Road, or Mehrauli-Badarpur Road instead. These measures stay in place until October 2, so plan ahead to avoid the hassle.

Modi’s participation highlights his support for India’s rich cultural traditions, especially Durga Puja, a beloved festival that honors the goddess Durga’s victory over evil. The CR Park event stands out as one of Delhi’s biggest, with stunning pandals, lively cultural shows, and sacred rituals drawing thousands from across the Delhi-NCR region.

The Kali Mandir complex, built in the 1970s, serves as a key spiritual center for the city’s Bengali community, blending faith and festivity in a big way.
