Israel’s top military leader, Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir, shared an update on Tuesday about the ongoing Gaza war, saying the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) are giving leaders more options to shape the fight against Hamas. During a visit to Gaza City with top officers, Zamir highlighted how the current push is opening fresh paths and getting Israel nearer to its key goals in the conflict.
Zamir stressed that troops must stay sharp and professional. “We have to keep delivering top-notch military work and lead with skill,” he said, according to army statements. This approach, he added, helps politicians make smart calls on the Gaza campaign’s future.
Zamir has called this one of the toughest wars the IDF has faced, pushing for quick changes and strong operations to handle the challenges.
This comes right after a big announcement from the White House on Monday. U.S. President Donald Trump, standing with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, rolled out a U.S.-backed plan to end the Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza. The 20-point proposal, which Israel has already signed onto, aims for a ceasefire in Gaza and a lasting peace deal. Hamas is reviewing it now and could respond soon.
Trump told reporters on Tuesday that Hamas has just three or four days to say yes. He noted that Arab and Muslim nations, plus Israel, back the Trump Gaza proposal. “If they turn it down, it’ll be a very sad ending,” Trump warned.
Qatar’s Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani called the plan a step forward but said Israel’s withdrawal from Gaza needs more details and talks. He pointed out that stopping the war is a core part of it, and postwar plans for Gaza would involve chats with the U.S.
At the United Nations, Israel’s ambassador Danny Danon sent a tough message to Hamas: return the hostages the easy way or the hard way. U.S. envoy Mike Waltz echoed that, vowing to keep pushing until every hostage from the October 7 attack is free. Survivors, hostage families, and diplomats joined a memorial event where they spoke.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urged everyone to stick to the agreement and repeated his push for an immediate, permanent ceasefire in Gaza.
Foreign ministers from Saudi Arabia, Jordan, the UAE, Indonesia, Pakistan, Turkey, Qatar, and Egypt released a joint statement on Monday, praising Trump’s honest efforts in the Gaza peace plan and trusting him to pave the way forward.
The news sparked excitement on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, where shares soared to record highs on hopes for the U.S.-led initiative. The main TA-125 index climbed 3.1%, the TA-Construction index surged 7.6%, and the TA-Insurance index gained 6.5%.
Palestinian Ambassador to India Abdullah Abu Shawesh welcomed the Trump Gaza proposal, matching words from Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas. But he cautioned that real success depends on what Israel does next. Speaking to at the Kerala Media Academy, Abu Shawesh said, “President Abbas welcomes this, but we need to watch Israel’s response. It looks good on paper, but with their tanks and bombings on the ground, we have to see if they truly commit to peace.”
