Delhi Police nabbed two friends from a cyber fraud gang who tricked job seekers by pretending to be recruiters for Indigo Airlines. The arrests happened on Tuesday, shedding light on a sneaky job scam that cost one victim over Rs. 24,100.
It all started with Rohit Yadav, who spotted a promising job ad for Indigo Airlines on his Facebook feed. He dialed the number listed and soon got a callback from a man claiming to be Rohit Sharma. The fake recruiter promised him the gig but said he’d need to pay Rs. 350 for a form fee and Rs. 3,250 for uniform costs—money that would supposedly come back with his first paycheck.
Rohit trusted the pitch and sent the Rs. 350 via UPI on July 30. The next day, he wired the Rs. 3,250 the same way. In return, he got a fake gate pass and job bond agreement through WhatsApp. But the scammers weren’t done. “Rohit Sharma” then hit him up for Rs. 15,500 more for the agreement and Rs. 5,000 for file fees. Rohit paid those too, only to get blocked and ghosted—their numbers went dead.
When Rohit reported the Indigo Airlines job scam through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal, Delhi Police jumped into action. Their probe traced the stolen cash to a State Bank of India account under Azad Khan’s name in Faridabad, Haryana. Digging deeper, they linked a key mobile number—8510028711—to Ajay, who lives in Jeevan Nagar, Gochi, Faridabad.
Acting on tech clues, officers raided the area and caught Azad Khan near his home in Sector-55, Gochi. Using his tips, they arrested Ajay at his place that same day. During questioning, the duo confessed they were buddies plotting quick cash through this cyber fraud scheme. They targeted folks desperate for Indigo Airlines jobs with phony promises.
Police seized Ajay’s phone and the scam SIM card, uncovering fake Indigo Airlines letters—including ones sent to Rohit. The investigation into this Facebook job scam continues as authorities hunt for more leads on similar cyber fraud cases.
