India’s top diplomat for Western affairs, Sibi George, stepped up to represent the country at Armenia’s National Day event in New Delhi. He highlighted India’s strong dedication to its long-standing friendship with the West Asian nation.
George built on recent high-level talks between leaders from both sides, stressing the deep historical roots of their bond. The Ministry of External Affairs shared this on X, saying: “Secretary (West) Sibi George represented India at the National Day celebrations of the Republic of Armenia. He reaffirmed commitment to the long-standing India-Armenia friendship rooted in history, building on recent high-level engagements among the leadership of both countries.”
This comes after a series of key interactions boosting India-Armenia relations. Back in August, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chatted with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in China’s Tianjin. Modi later posted on X: “Very good interaction with Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan. India and Armenia share warm and growing ties, rooted in friendship and mutual cooperation.”
Earlier, in March, Armenia’s Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan visited India at the invitation of External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. The two held fruitful talks, reviewing progress in areas like political exchanges, trade, economy, connectivity, education, culture, and people-to-people links. They also eyed new opportunities in digital technologies and pharmaceuticals. Discussions touched on teamwork at the United Nations and other global forums, plus shared views on regional and international issues.
Defence ties got a boost too. In February, India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh met his Armenian counterpart Suren Papikyan during the Aero India 2025 event in Bengaluru. They talked about strengthening bilateral defence cooperation, including more joint training and potential partnerships between their defence industries. Both sides noted the rising importance of military and technical ties, approached from multiple angles.
