‘Border issues with China to proxy war by Pakistan…”: CDS Chauhan lists six major challenges for India

India Faces Key Security Challenges, Says Military Chief

New Delhi, September 5 — India’s Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Anil Chauhan, has highlighted six major security challenges that the country needs to prepare for. He emphasized that future conflicts won’t just happen on land, air, or sea — they will involve new domains like space and cyberspace.

In a speech in Gorakhpur, General Chauhan explained that these threats are ongoing and require India to stay alert and united. The biggest challenge he pointed out is the unresolved border dispute with China, which remains a serious concern for India.

Next, he mentioned Pakistan’s strategy of “bleeding India by a thousand cuts,” referring to its proxy war tactics aimed at weakening India gradually. He also talked about regional instability, with neighboring countries facing social, political, and economic issues that could invite outside interference.

Another challenge is how warfare is evolving. Modern wars will involve multiple domains, including space and cyberspace, making military coordination more important than ever. General Chauhan stressed that India must achieve better cohesion among its armed forces to handle these future battles.

He also warned about China and Pakistan’s nuclear capabilities, which add a layer of complexity to conventional warfare. Lastly, he pointed out the rapid growth of military technology, making wars more advanced and “more intelligent.”

On a related note, General Chauhan shared details about Operation Sindoor, a recent military mission. He revealed that the armed forces had full operational freedom during the operation, which aimed not for revenge but to draw a “red line” to show India’s patience. He credited National Security Advisor Ajit Doval for his role in planning, diplomacy, and managing tensions.

These comments come just days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Chinese President Xi Jinping at the SCO summit in China. Over the past few months, India and China have improved ties, including an agreement last October to reduce border tensions after a meeting at the BRICS Summit in Russia.

However, despite these efforts, the border issue with China remains a big challenge and keeps tensions high at the Line of Actual Control (LAC), the disputed border area.

Stay tuned for more updates on India’s security situation and its efforts to keep the nation safe.
