The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) Cup is heating up in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, as athletes battle it out from October 1 to 7. The inaugural BFI Cup 2025 is a national showcase for India’s top men’s and women’s boxers, spanning 10 weight categories each and following full world‑boxing rules.

In the men’s quarter‑finals, Asiad gold‑medallist Amit Panghal of the Services team punched a clear win, beating Usman Ansari 4‑1. His teammate S. Vishwanath also dominated, dispatching C. Lukas 5‑0, while World Championships bronze‑medallist Mohammad Husamuddin finished a clean 5‑0 victory over M. Henthoi Singh. The women’s side is equally thrilling. World Champ silver‑medallist Manju Rani (Railways) leapt to the final after a flawless 5‑0 win over Mahi Siwach (Haryana). In the other semi‑final, World Youth Champion Ankushita Boro (Assam) shook out a 5‑0 decision versus Shretima Thakur (Himachal Pradesh). Former Youth World Champ Arundhati Choudhary (Services) logged a 5‑0 win over Deepika (SAI), and Priya (Haryana) stunned Jyoti (Delhi) with the same scoreline. World Championships bronze‑medallist Parveen Hooda (SAI) went 5‑0 against Mahi Lama (Madhya Pradesh). With these clean victories, the women’s final line‑up now consists of the best of India’s top fighters.

The competition gathers boxers from state units and boards that ranked in the top eight at the Elite Nationals, plus entries from the SAI NCOE and host state Tamil Nadu. Participants also include the last two Elite National Champions, Indian representatives from the 2024 and 2025 Asian U‑22 Championships, and medalists from international meets since 2022. Medallists from the Goa and Uttarakhand National Games and the 6th Youth Nationals add extra depth, all registered through their official state bodies.

With every bout attracting national attention, the BFI Cup 2025 is shaping up to be a pivotal event for India’s boxing future. The winners will earn gold and silver medals and a coveted spot at the Elite National Camp, where they can further hone their skills for upcoming international contests.
