Trump denies asking Netanyahu to not be ‘negative’

Washington, DC – On Monday, President Donald Trump said he was not telling Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to stop being negative. The claim came after Hamas accepted part of a U.S. plan to end the Gaza war, according to the Times of Israel.

Trump said he had spoken positively about the deal. He added that it would need to discuss other parts of the proposal after Hamas agreed to the first step. The President reiterated that he has “red lines” for Hamas in the new talks that started in Egypt on Monday, and he will not go forward unless certain conditions are met.

“Some things must be met,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office, “or we won’t do it.” He also said Hamas has been agreeing to key points and that the U.S. is confident a ceasefire and hostage‑release plan are coming.

When asked about a potential timeline for a deal that would include the release of Israeli hostages, Trump was vague. He confirmed he has spoken with families of the hostages and described their relief. “They’re very happy,” he said. “I saw someone say, ‘I can’t breathe’.”

The President also noted that many Israelis want a fast resolution, hinting at the large protests in Israel that call for a hostage deal and an end to the war, often opposing the Netanyahu administration’s approach. The Times of Israel reported that the U.N. and other global players are watching the negotiations closely as they seek a lasting ceasefire and a release of hostages.
